A10 05 - The Holy Spirit is over me

Jesus, the Christ, is the anointed par excellence: he can affirm himself, quoting the prophet Isaiah: «The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, therefore he has anointed me» (Lk 4:18; Is 61:1). God gave him his strength and power, that is, his Spirit, to carry out the mission of priest, prophet and king. Those who believe in Jesus are anointed by the Spirit, imbued with his gifts of grace, truth, holiness, strength: «It is God himself who confirms us, together with you, in Christ, and who has anointed us, who has sealed us and given us the Spirit’s earnest in our hearts» (2 Cor 1:21-22).
